Nigeria’s New National Minimum Wage Bill Passes Second Reading At House of Representatives

Nigeria’s New National Minimum Wage bill was passed following deliberation on the bill the after Speaker Yakubu Dogara read a letter by President Muhammadu Buhari, seeking an amendment to the Minimum Wage Act 1981, to reflect a new minimum wage of N27, 000.

After many contributions, the house set up an ad hoc committee headed by the Deputy Speaker, Rep. Yussuff Lassun, for further legislative process on the bill.

In his ruling, the Speaker mandated the committee to conduct a public hearing on Monday, January 28 and report to the house on Tuesday, January 29 for passage.
